PORTLAND, Ore. — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of the northern Oregon Coast and nearby coastal range as a powerful storm system moves through the Pacific Northwest.
The warning, issued at 12:47 p.m., covers southern Clatsop County and northwestern Tillamook County, and is expected to remain in effect until 1:30 p.m. According to radar data, a severe thunderstorm was detected over Garibaldi, bringing with it intense rainfall and dangerous wind conditions.
Meteorologists say the storm could produce wind gusts between 60 and 70 miles per hour, posing a threat of downed trees and localized power outages. Residents in the affected areas are urged to take shelter indoors and stay away from windows until the storm passes.
The weather system is part of a broader storm front sweeping across the Pacific Northwest, expected to bring heavy rain, thunder, and strong winds to coastal and inland communities from Wednesday into Thursday.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and warn travelers to exercise caution, especially along U.S. Highway 101 and other coastal routes where conditions may deteriorate rapidly.
Stay tuned for continued weather updates from local agencies and the NWS Portland office as the system progresses.
